Before I start the re-watch babble/squee/etc, a few things.
# This was the first episode of the season that didn't feel like they had to chop and squish the story to fit into the 45 minutes available. They came close to it last week but dropped the ball hard when it came to the ending which just left me going uh, wait, that's it? A big, relieved WOOHOO for the progress made in that regard. Here's hoping it'll continue.
# I'm not feeling the Amy/Rory love. Literally, I mean. At first I thought maybe we're not MEANT to and that this means something, but after this episode I fear the actors might simply lack chemistry. Show keeps telling me and showing me but I don't feel Amy's supposed love for Rory. It is very frustrating.
# Jacket!Doctor. I've subscribed to that theory so hard it is impossible to watch the show without trying to connect the dots in a way that involves him. If jacket!Doctor turns out to have been a red herring I will be absolutely DEVASTATED.
# My current theory is incomplete and most likely very, very wrong but here it is: Rory isn't who or what he appears to be. Whoever or whatever he is, I don't think his intentions are malicious, though, quite the opposite. I also think that Amy will have to choose again at some point, and that time the Doctor will NEED her to choose him but she won't trust the Doctor enough to do so, and as a result things go boom. AND THEN THE DOCTOR GOES BACK IN TIME, CROSSES INTO HIS OWN TIMELINE, WEARING A JACKET IN PLACES WHERE THERE WAS NO JACKET. BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I NEED HIM TO DO. *ahem* Yes.
# I don't want Amy to be River, like really, really don't, but. 1) Amy is convinced that the Doctor trusts her, tells her everything, and then the Dream Lord asks Amy if the Doctor has told her his name yet. 2) We know that River knows the Doctor's name. §) So what if that's what the Doctor tells Amy; he shows her she can trust him, because he trusts her enough to tell her his name? And then Amy kills Rory, the man she loves, a good man, to close that box thingy they keep saying will open, and I will cry and cry and cryyyy. ;_; It's a good thing my theories are always so completely off base. Hear that Moffat? I JUST JINXED YOU. THIS CANNOT HAPPEN. RESHOOT IF YOU MUST.
Anyway! Re-watch starting in 3...2...1...
BWAH! I LOVE the opening scene in the kitchen, and then the Doctor arriving and making O_O-faces at the OMGBELLY. "You've swallowed a planet!" <3
"Look at this. Bench. What a nice bench. What will they think of next."
--The Doctor is so, hilariously, BORED by Amy and Rory's life. I lol'd.
"Oh thank GOD, I had a TERRIBLE nightmare about you two. That was scary. Don't ask. You don't want to know. You're safe now."
--AND THEN HE HUGS AMY. Oh 11, you might as well leave that foot in your mouth, you put it there so often. <3
"And you were pregnant."
"Yes! I was HUGE. I was a boat!"
"So you had the same dream, then. Exactly the same dream."
"Are you calling me a boat?"
--Poor Rory, he just cannot win, can he.
"I threw [the TARDIS manual] in a supernova."
"You threw the manual in a supernova. Why?"
"Because I disagreed with it; stop talking to me when I'm cross!"
--I KIND OF LOVE 11 A LOT. SHH TELL NO ONE.
So old people can be just as creepy as little kids and Weeping Angels, good to know. *whimper*
"Ugh. Can we NOT do the running thing?"
--ILU, Pregnant Amy.
BWAAAA DOCTOR INNA JUMPER. BRB DYING.
"I'm sure there's a dream give-away tell but my mind isn't working because this village IS SO DULL."
AND THEN AMY FAKES GETTING THE BABY AND THEY'RE ALL YOU'RE A DOCTOR, NO YOU'RE A DOCTOR, IT'S OKAY WE'RE DOCTORS, AND 11 CROUCHES DOWN LIKE HE WANTS TO CATCH THE BABY COMING OUT AND AHAHAHAHAHAAHA4EVER. *breathes* I'm okay, I'm okay. Just, <3.
God, and then there's the elephant thing and I lol'd some more. Why don't I just do a transcript, seriously. Brilliant stuff, this.
Ooh, Rory's LOOK OF DEATH when 11 yells at Amy for no reason. GO RORY.
"We have to grow up eventually."
You know, that whole scene with Amy throwing herself at the Doctor really makes no sense whatsoever ("heat of the moment" doesn't work for me). I very much hope it will make sense eventually and that they didn't just put it there for shits and giggles. :/
When the Doctor first tells the Dream Lord he knows who he is, do we think he was fishing or did he really know? "There's only one person in the universe who hates me as much as you do." Was he really referring to himself there?
Rory: "You know the Doctor, he's Mister Cool."
Doctor: *wobbles and flails along a street*
I love that the Doctor outright asks Rory if they're disagreeing or competeing. Mind, I have no idea WHY the Doctor is competing. Rory I get, but the Doctor? He gets mean about it too, like in the last episode where he tells Rory IN FRONT OF ALL HIS MATES that Amy kissed him. It's very puzzling. (UNLESS I'm right and the Doctor has already figured out that there's more to Rory than meets the eye. Oooh.)
Okay, here's the thing. I understand that Rory thought he was dying. I understand that Amy, at that moment, thought she had just lost Rory. And her angry/mean, "Then what is the point of you?" did hit me hard because it hit the Doctor hard. But other than that, nope. Because Amy being pregnant made it obvious to me, as a viewer, that this was the dream world, right from the start. So everything that happened in this scene that was meant to have a heavy, dramatic impact on me... didn't. Which is my only real qualm with this episode. I wish they'd made it more ambiguous to me, the viewer, whether the "Rory dream" was real.
And then we get another coupla Amy/Rory scenes and I continue to not feel it. It doesn't even make SENSE. Like, why is Rory always surprised when Amy so much as HUGS him? That should be normal! Does she ABUSE HIM normally or something?! AUGH.
And now that I wrote all that down I shall finally allow myself to hunt down your episode reactions. Let's see if I missed any big clues this time. Whee!
