1) Yes, I am still around. (On Twitter, for the most part.)

2) Due to the newest uproar surrounding LJ (servers moved to Russia, TOS changes) this is now an archival account. If I ever start posting again (and it's not like I don't have a hankering, I just never seem to get around to it), it will be at Dreamwidth.

3) If you want to keep in touch, you're very welcome to add me on either site.

4) It was a wild ride, LJ. RIP.

Looking at my journal one might get the impression that the excitement over Captain America 2 killed me, but nope! I'm shipping all the pairings (so. many. pairings), and reading all the fic (♥AO3♥), and fangirling all the Chris Evans actors, and reblogging all the pretty (when I remember to log into Tumblr anyway). I just do it very, very quietly. I mostly tweet these days (under private lock because it's a mix of fandom and personal stuff).

» games Played Dragon Age: Origins. Played Dragon Age 2. Remembered DA:O included all the DLC, played that. Somehow became obsessed with the universe along the way and am now counting the days until Inquisition. So, that happened. /o\ I also played Deus Ex: Human Revolution which was fun (but I used all the cheats because I'm terrible at stealth and have no patience for dying; you see my problem), and the first Portal which was fun until the last level and then upgraded to awesometacular. Oh, oh! And I played Mass Effect 1 which I really, really liked even though the voice actor of male!Shep was hilariously awful. I already own ME2 and ME3 but since the game mechanics are so similar to those of the Dragon Age games I don't want to burn myself out on that before Inquisition comes out. So I'm playing Far Cry 3 right now. I'm not very far in yet but I'm enjoying it so far.

» books After a fantastic start (six books by February!) I hit a snag. Namely Broken Homes, the third part of the Rivers of London series. I don't know what it is, I just can't get into this one. I loved the first two but this book has been sitting on my reading table for months. I need to finish it before starting a new book (them's the rules) but every time I pick it up I just, put it back down after a few pages. I honestly can't tell if it's actually the book, or me. Augh. Somebody chain me down and force me to finish this so I can move on to that Alex Verus novel I've been eyeing.

» television I'm still very much enjoying Teen Wolf. (My secret: don't expect anything to make sense, seriously, just roll with it; don't do fandom or keep up with show news; and don't get invested in any ships. I'm failing at the last one because Malia/Stiles, oh my heart, but that's okay, the first two are the most vital. I basically want to pinch everyone's cheeks, and is it just me or has Derek somehow become super hot this season?) Defiance was really good this season, bit sad that it's already over. I'm also really liking some new shows, Rush (Tom Ellis has never been more attractive), Dominion, and Finding Carter. And there's a new-new show starting soon that utterly charmed me, Forever. The premise reminds me a lot of New Amsterdam, might be a reboot? Anyway, I'll definitely be tuning in. There's more, Ray Donovan, Suits, Witches of East End, ...oh god, and Sleepy Hollow's starting back up again soon, among others. I have no idea how I'm keeping up with all that, gah.

» comics I'm much happier now that I've given up on all that events business. Who needs 'em, bah. Current titles I'm into include Ms. Marvel (so charming!), Hawkeye (I've been having such a soft spot for Clint lately), Captain Marvel (because Carol Danvers, fyeah), Secret Avengers, Daredevil, Deadpool (sometimes I love it, sometimes not so much, currently a lot because they thew him and Clint together and hilarity ensued), Guardians of the Galaxy, Loki: Agent of Asgard (I was the last person to see this coming but this fresh-faced version of Loki is surprisingly fun), aaand I think that's it. I kinda want to try Avengers World (mostly because Clint is really hot in this one, shh) but I'm worried it will crank my frustration with Avengers titles back up to eleven. I also want to try myself at a Spider-Man title. Last time I tried they replaced Peter two issues in which nope, but I hear he's back now? Spidey always made me chuckle in Avengers books so maaaybe it's time to give that another try.

So there. That's what up with me fannishly. Bit of a mouthful but hey, I updated! That's one off the to-do list. ;)

Yes, I somehow find time to real life in between all that. Ahem.

Livejournal says I last updated today, but Livejournal is a filthy liar. Editing to-do lists and fic wips doesn't count, damn it. No, the sad news is that I last updated in July. How.

Nothing much has happened. I'm still watching too many shows, trying to get into Avengers comics, and continue to fail warming up to Tumblr as the new fannish playground (this is so depressing to me I can't even tell you).

In November I spent a long weekend at the sea. Turns out I love the sea, and fresh, salty air, and drinking hot tea on a cold, windy day at the beach. In short, it was fabulous and I need to spend more vacation time away from home.

Around the same time I tentatively took up gaming. It started with Lego's Marvel Heroes, and then the Steam Autumn sale happened and Bioshock Infinite blew my mind, and then the Steam Winter sale happened and I lost two fun weeks to the new Tomb Raider game. I'm still playing Marvel Heroes on and off. It's cute enough but I'm bitter that I did the newbie thing and bought it at full price. I had no idea Steam sales were a thing! I'm also playing Skyrim but while the open world thing is amazing, I also find it a little overwhelming. I think linear games are more my thing, at least for now. Frustratingly I'm not warming up to Assassin's Creed as much as I thought I would and am wondering if I should give up on the first game for now and try the second, see if I like it better. My main problem lies with the controls, honestly. I hope they improved those.

I'm also reading books this year. Last year was very much the year of fanfiction and I don't think I read a single book. Not that I'm putting down the fanfiction (pfft) but I already read six books this year and am enjoying my weekend mornings on the sofa.

There's an ongoing fill over at avengerkink that I love to pieces but is getting little to no feedback and it's making me fret, I'm not even joking. So this is me spreading the word. I hope you guys like the story as much as I do, maybe even enough to leave the author some love. ?

The WIP gets updated pretty regularly and updates normally come in nice big chunks. It's a Clint centric fill, Tony's POV, and gen so far but heavy on Clint&Tony. The author says it might turn into Clint/Tony if it feels right; at this point I'd be happy either way (to my surprise; I normally prefer my fic relationship flavored). I don't want to spoil the story too much but basically Clint is a shapeshifter. Terrible things have happened to him because people found out about his ability so he keeps it a secret. The team finds out and after the initial freak-out Clint slowly learns to embrace that side of him, but then his past comes back to haunt him.

Tony's POV is fun (he has the best one-liners), and there are lots of subtle moments between Clint and Tony that are just really enjoyable. The rest of the team are present and involved, too, which is another thing I adore. It's well-written and slow-building and, just... (Somebody give Clint a hug.)

I JUST REALLY LOVE THIS STORY, OKAY. /happy tears

And can I just say that this kind of WIP encompasses all that I love so much about The Kink Meme Experience (which is one of my favorite fandom things ever)? Finding a WIP that you like, tracking it, flailing in your chair when updates arrive in your inbox and then dropping everything to read them, loving on the anon author. Just, yes. <3

eta; As it turns out the author is also updating the story on AO3 as they write! Genus Panthera by harcourt.

First off, those 2D Glasses I mentioned? The postal service must really like me because against all odds mine somehow arrived the day before the movie showing, and I'm in love. As far as I'm concerned I watched a 2D movie, it was great. So if you aren't fond of 3D, or 3D gives you headaches, the glasses are worth a look.

And now, " >Iron Man 3. Collapse )

» The surgery went well and after recuperating at the parents' place for a while, I'm heading home tomorrow. My blood results were a bit funky but I feel alright, so hopefully that's just normal post-surgery funkiness and they'll be back to normal when we do another check on the 13th. Especially seeing as I have a plane ticket for the 16th, meep. (But mostly because I'd like my liver to be okay.)

» If I feel well on Wednesday I might go see Iron Man 3. EXCITING. (Downside: it's a 3D showing and my 2D Glasses won't reach me in time.) Now I just need to somehow stay unspoiled until then. Be nice, Tumblr.

» Psych is making me wibbly. 707 onwards.Collapse )

» Supernatural is making me flaily. 820 Pac-Man Fever.Collapse )

» Everything is Elementary and nothing hurts. That's literally all I got. I'm completely besotted with that show, and this wait for new episodes is torture.

» And now I shall continue getting absolutely nothing done. I had plans! Beautiful plans progressing fannish projects! But this laptop is sucking the productivity right out of me. I just can't seem to establish a workflow that works for me. All I've one for the past two weeks is watch my shows, read some fic, cook meals, and play Candy Crush. :/

For two weeks I kept putting off posting about various things that popped into my head, and now that I've actually sat down to post all I can think of posting is the thing that prompted me to sit down today. Welcome to my brain, it responds to 'swiss cheese' when called.

I signed up to do a thing that requires some non-MCU Avengers knowledge so I thought hey, I'll just read some comics! Ha. Hahahaha. Let's just say acquiring them was the easy part. I sort of decided where to jump in overall (because decades of comics, wat) but beyond that... where do I even start, and in what order, and just. Welp. So, in familiar failboat fashion, I'm procrastinating by reading Deadpool instead. GOLDSTAR.

Someone recced me Cable & Deadpool which was awesome and gave me Bob who is so ridiculous I can't even. Bob<3. I'm now reading the post-C&D volume of Deadpool which I wasn't impressed with initially but I soldiered on regardless. I'm pleased that it's gotten a bit better, and earlier today I got to issue 29 which features Steve Rogers and um, this happened.

'I'll sit on your lap.'*Collapse )

STEVE'S LITTLE BLUSH WHEN HE SAYS, "I'LL SIT ON YOUR LAP". I died, oh my god. (Deadpool is referring to his acquisition of the fireworks in the flashback panel but I can't help agree. Cap sitting on his lap? GENIUS.)

And now I'm going to retire to the couch with the tablet and enjoy the rest of my day off. There's an old Big Bang by valtyr that's calling my name.

» Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr spent the day together. They even touched and Chris smiled dopeyly at RDJ and everything. Life is beautiful and nothing hurts—except the lack of RPF in Avengers fandom. Why do you insist on hurting me, fandom, why?

» Have just subscribed to the wrong story on AO3 for the umpteenth time. Can someone please fix that stupid bug? (To recreate: log out. Open story A in one tab, story B in another. Go back to tab A and log in. The logged in page that loads will display story B. If you don't pay attention you subscribe to the wrong story. Which is probably where the "y u sub to completed stories, silly?" confusion comes from.)

» Help, I've fallen into Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and can't get up. There are three episodes left of season one and my only complaint so far: not enough Bruce. I'm just not a Hulk person, I guess. Jan is my favorite, and I want to make sweet love to Tony's voice actor. I'm also really liking Hank but I have the feeling they're about to crank up the drama so I'm prepared to have my heart broken.

» I'm also mainlining Elementary. You've won, everyone in the entire universe. You've won. I'm on episode eight and like it well enough so far. I hope you're happy.

Can we talk about a "notify me upon completion" subscription, AO3? I wouldn't have to delete so many useless emails, your servers would probably appreciate the break, happy endings all around! (Pretty please?) (Let's not talk about how I have somehow managed to stop falling into the WIP trap on AO3 while kink meme WIPs still get me every time. Every time. *weeps*)

Suits finale tomorrow. This season has been amazing all around and it's bound to end with a bang. Nngh, gimme. Whatever happens, there had better be a lot of Donna. I have such a crush on that character, oh my god. *hearteyes*

Speaking of finales, I went into this week's episode of Primeval not knowing that that was it for season one, aaah. Spoilersss!Collapse ) Primeval and I have a complicated relationship. It gives me so-and-so acting, hit-and-miss writing and cliched directing. Honestly, I'm convinced it's made by newbies who are determined to hit every single pothole imaginable. (I'm too chicken to look that up--what if I'm wrong and these people should know what they're doing! the horror.) But it also gives me dinosaurs, Niall Matter's face, Miranda Frigon's eyes, and the possibility of Colin Ferguson guest starring again. So. There's going to be a second season, right? Don't let me down, Canada!

Snow It snowed a few days ago and then again all day yesterday. Everything is white and beautiful and the birdhouse on my balcony is seeing a lot of action. My love for snow is great and I couldn't be happier.

Merlin I gather one of the creators more or less confirmed Arthur and Merlin's epic gay love for each other by way of DVD commentary? Squee! Not that this makes up for years of heartache, but. That's really very nice.

Haven One day I will devote an entire entry to telling you how much I love that show and my OT3 and the cast, and you won't know what hit you for all the squee and capslock. This is my advance apology.

Lost Girl My silly guilty pleasure show is back! Oh Kenzi, how I have missed you. She's adorable to the max. ♥ So far I like the new addition to the cast and even Lauren seems to be growing on me, miracle of miracles.

Fringe RIP, show. I remember how it took me some time to get into at the beginning but I stuck with it and then it got really good. It hasn't quite kept up that level of awesome but Fringe has always been a good time in one way or another, and I'll miss all the characters. I can only hope Anna Torv gets another show because she's gorgeous and I'd miss her face, and smile, and hair, especially when it's dyed red, just saying.

Last Resort I can't even tell you how nervous I am about the finale this week. They canceled this show early on but I have no idea if they got to end things properly or if we're going to be left hanging. All I know is that it's going to be intense either way, meep. My body isn't ready.

Health My health woes are still unresolved and it's getting to me. If you have some good thoughts to spare I'd appreciate it.

To those of you wondering right this moment where the heck I came from, chances are you put your name down at a friending meme recently, maybe even mentioned the Avengers as an interest, in which case I swooped you right up. Hi.

I got absolutely nothing done today and am a little desperate for that sweet feeling of accomplishment, so how about some recs? (They've been piling up, and up, and watch out, avalanche!) Alas, still no spoiler cut on DW. I'll try to keep my commentary to a (unspoiler-y) minimum. (Which might be for the best actually, there are a few fics here that make me want to keysmash and bounce in my seat I love them so much.)

Recs: The Avengers

And Has Time Enough by [archiveofourown.org profile] wanttobeatree (Steve/Tony. 15684. PG.)
Tony asks if they have met. It's a matter of perspective. (Think "A Time Traveller's Wife" only less creepy. Wonderful execution, one of my very favorites, must. not. keysmash.)

A Fire to be Kindled by [archiveofourown.org profile] kepteinen (Steve/Tony. 15685. PG-13.)
It makes perfect sense, of course. The serum gave Steve the perfect body, so why wouldn’t it also give him the perfect mind? In the quietness of his own mind, Tony can admit he’s a little stung Steve didn’t tell him, but he’s not really surprised.

Secrets of a Successful Marriage by [archiveofourown.org profile] valtyr (Steve/Tony. 24118. NC-17.)
Tony Stark lives a double life; he's secretly the supervillain known as Iron Man. But his loving husband Steve has a few secrets of his own, as Tony is about to discover. (DELIGHTFUL.)

Someone to Love by [archiveofourown.org profile] blue_jack (Steve/Tony. 47162. R.)
I hesitate to c/p the summary because it spoils the big reveal/plot twist in the middle of the story. Which is unfortunate because I love this fic, it hurt so good and was very satisfying emotionally. But oh, that summary. So if you feel comfortable going into a story blind, I encourage you to. If you feel safer having read all the notes/warnings, best do that.

you, maybe not essentially you, somebody else by dorcas_gustine (Crossover w/The Losers. Jensen/Tony. 10439. R.)
"That's crazy man," he says. "I mean, I get Stark flying around shooting lasers from his hands, he's got a British house after all, but man... Captain America." (I love Jensen. I love Tony. This was basically perfect before it even began. But yes, so much fun.)

flying (just far enough) from the sun by [archiveofourown.org profile] isawet (Pepper/Steve/Tony. 20306. Unrated.)
Steve doesn’t stop to really consider the depth of Tony’s character until the dust has both literally and metaphorically settled on the ruins of Stark Tower. (One of my favorite threesomes in this fandom. <3)

A.I.s and Lullabies by [archiveofourown.org profile] Echo (Gen. 21687. PG-13.)
Tony is suddenly a quiet, wary five year old boy. The rest of the team are less than completely sure about what to do about that. (This fic, oh my god. I cried, okay? I cried so much, and that rarely ever happens to me when it comes to fic, gah.)

the modern world is awesome and so are you by anon at capkink (Steve/Tony. PG.)
For the prompt, When Steve wakes up, SHIELD wants him to spend some time talking to therapists and visit some doctors and acclimate him slowly back into the world in the healthiest manner possible. They're waiting to introduce him to the modern world until they're certain he's stable. Tony thinks it's taking too long and is boring and he just really wants to show Steve all the cool shit he's missed out on. So while wearing his armor, he breaks Steve out and carries him as he flies him around and is basically all I can showww you the world, shining shimmering splendid, etc. Steve is somewhere between terrified and fascinated. Tony eventually returns him, but keeps kidnapping him every couple days or so. They're both surprised by how much they look forward to these little 'dates' each week. (Short and sweet. ♥)

Doubt the Stars by [archiveofourown.org profile] someidiothasice (Steve/Tony. 5435. R.)
"Tell Pepper and Rhodey... tell them I couldn't have done it without them. Can you do that for me?" Steve blinked and the feed went clear again. He felt something hot run down his face. "And Steve? What should I tell him?" Clint asked quietly. There was a short intake of breath, but Steve couldn't tell who it was from. "Tell Steve--" Tony's voice got strangled for a moment before he cleared his throat, "nothing. Don't tell him anything. There's nothing I could say that he would want to hear, anyway." (I didn't cry but my eyes definitely burnt, y'all.)

How to Lose a Super Soldier in One Easy Step by [archiveofourown.org profile] and_backagain & [archiveofourown.org profile] jibrailis (Steve/Tony. 18248. NC-17.)
Rogers jerks backwards, shock registering on his face, and Tony thinks, welcome back to the land of the living, Cap, looks like you're sticking around. Or, a Pushing Daisies AU. (I repeat, Pushing Daisies AU. Yet another keysmash alert, eep.)

Let's get lost in your ferrari by [archiveofourown.org profile] attice (Steve/Tony. 5223. NC-17.)
"Show me," Steve says, pressing his hip against the cool metal. "Is it as fast as it looks?" (Car sex. Hot like burning. Yep.)

Late Delivery by [archiveofourown.org profile] tsukinofaerii (Steve/Tony. 6909. PG-13.)
When Tony was little, he once wrote a letter to Santa begging for the one thing he wanted most in the world. What Tony didn't know is that Santa always delivers... eventually. (If you know me at all then you know that winter/holiday themed fic is a surefire way to my heart, and this was so.. okay, a little sad but mostly cute and fluffy and happy making. <333)

Perspective by [archiveofourown.org profile] Silverlace_Vine (Bruce/Steve/Tony. 40780. NC-17.)
Steve walks in on Tony and Bruce, and it changes everything. (This is me, putting my foot down. There are two moments in this that may want you to back-button. I know this because I almost did, and I've read discussions where others said that's what they did. But seriously you guys, this is a good one. The relationship builds at just the right pace, and the ending is solid, and it's only two paragraphs out of almost 41k that may be a bit backbutton-y. Don't give up!)

Not Quite Method by [archiveofourown.org profile] autoschediastic (RPF. RDJ/Tony. 841. R.)
"If I were Christian fucking Bale, or Jesus Christ help me, Clooney in the nipple suit, gearing up to play Bruce fictional fucking Wayne, he'd send me a fucking fictional helicopter." (No, you don't understand. Robert Downey Jr. Slash. Tony Stark. I just. I love fandom. ;_;)

And that's not even half of my "to rec" list but I ran out of time. I also have some Teen Wolf and Merlin and um, The Losers and stuff? But, next time. Have a good one, flist!

Activity! On my Dreamwidth friends page! AMAZING. ;)

I've settled in okay on Dreamwidth. Fixed up my profile and layout, finished wrangling the reading page filters, and set up [community profile] merlinrpf to match merlinrpf. Next up there are a couple of communities that I created on Dreamwidth but don't own on Livejournal, and I'm looking forward to getting them ready for launch. Chief among them [community profile] chrisevans because I'm, y'know, obsessed. <3

Features I don't think I can cope without oh god whywhywhy do they not exist on Dreamwidth~

* Notes! How am I expected to function (and remember how I met people) without the Notes feature? Welp.
* Spoiler cut! It's so nice to be able to hide things on entry pages and in comments, and my soul hurts for the lack of it.
* Scheduled posts! They would sure help with the Daily Picture at [community profile] chrisevans, but the last mention of scheduled posts at [site community profile] dw_news that was like, a year ago afaik? So that doesn't seem to be happening.

Other than that I'm eagerly awaiting the tool they announced at [site community profile] dw_support, that will allow us to wipe imported content. I didn't notice until recently that the importer hiccuped and my journal is littered with double imports, argh. I'm not sure yet if I'll reimport at [personal profile] moonie or use a back-up account instead.

I thought about not crossposting this one because it's All About Dreamwidth, but I'm so excited to try out the crossposting feature that I can't resist. I tried using site names instead of "here" or "there" to avoid confusion, and here's hoping I didn't screw up any of the coding so it makes sense on both sites.

HERE I GO, CLICKING THE POST BUTTON. /o\

Thing the first! merlinbb_rpf has concluded posting. \o/ I haven't had a chance to read them all yet, but the ones I have read were excellent and you should head over there and delve into all the goodness.

Thing the second! Livejournal plans on changing the friends page, doing away with custom layouts and whatnot. (Relevant information here and here.) This has sparked another mini flist exodus and you guys, there are barely 35 new entries on my friends page over night as it is, and that's counting communities. I really, really don't want to lose touch with anyone, so I dusted off my Dreamwidth account.

Add me! -> moonie. Or point me to yours.

I'll be crossposting future entries (with commenting enabled on both sites) and read both my friends pages, don't worry. I created a reading filter on DW that filters out crossposters so I won't get confused by duplicate entries which should help me not miss anything. \o/

As long as there's a fannish presence on Livejournal, not to mention part of my flist, I can't see myself leaving, but I figure it can't hurt to be prepared for the day Livejournal ruins itself for us completely.

In case you're also thinking about switching, or at least want to get more familiar with Dreamwidth, there's a multi-fandom friending meme happening that's at a mind-boggling 1109 comments right now. I met quite a few new people over there.

My favorite bit of each of this week's TV shows.

[Grimm]Grimm Monroe: "Oh. My. God. Hank knows." Haaahahaha!

[Doctor Who]Doctor Who Rory, when Eleven kisses him. His face says "yuck!" but does he wipe his mouth with the back of his hand? Oh no! No, he licks his lips. Oh Rory, you're my favorite for a reason. ♥

...it wasn't a busy TV week, was it. Fall season starts soon, though, and then watch me complain about how I don't have enough time to watch all my shows. First week of October for example, MyEpisodes tells me there's 11 shows for me to watch. Good god. Quick! Someone invent an extra week day just for catching up with TV!

» I promised my RPF Big Bangers that I would find cheerleaders for eeeveryone but one of them is still without. Anyone have some time on their hands to support a fledgling Bradley/Colin writer? The post is here. I would be eternally grateful.

» Weekends. I wake up with so much energy and stuff swirling about in my head. I could clean! I could put together some recs! I could write a guide on how to make email notifications of AO3 uploads and Pinboard bookmarks happen! And how to have them file into sub-inboxes so they don't clutter up your GMail! (Btw, would anyone be interested in that, or is that old news?) YEAH. ...and then I have breakfast and catch up on TV (or ahem, All the Chris Evans Movies) and make lunch and read some fic and... oh, day over. CUE FEELINGS OF FAILURE AND DOOM. :/

» Chris Evans. Can we talk about Chris Evans? I like how clothes have a tendency not to stay on him.

[Yup. (NSFW)]

Three of his movies that I can heartily recommend: Push, The Losers, and What's Your Number. I'm a little bit in love with all three. Push and The Losers are action movies. (I just watched the latter for the first time and oh man, so good.) What's Your Number is a romantic comedy and Chris is unbearably cute in it with or without clothes on.

And don't get me started on the photoshoots. I guess he used to model? I'm uh, trying not to encourage this awful crush by watching too many interviews. GAAAH. Be cool, self, be cool.

» Dan, a YouTuber, uploaded this wonderful video titled I Will Go Down With This Ship which discusses fandom and shipping. It's accurate and hilarious and, I mean, he's pretty awesome. A teaser on Tumblr in the form of gifs.

I'm going to end this weekend by embracing the suck and reading more Avengers fic. Or maybe rotrude's Viking's Slave which has been calling my name since it was posted. Decisions, decisions.

You know how I said in the past that I'm physically incapable of participating in more than one fandom at a time? Well, I don't know what happened but I'm currently reading Merlin fic, Sherlock fic, the occasional Supernatural fic, and... then Avengers happened. That I haven't seen the movie yet doesn't seem to matter (though I did re-watch Iron Man I + II and Captain America). STEVE/TONY = ALL THE HEARTS. Their love is made of hotness and snark and PTSD and possibly kittens. Yes.

It doesn't help that my f-list linked me to this fanart.

[Click for Steve kissing Tony... with tongue... while suited up.]
source: marielikestodraw @ tumblr (follow the link and click for a bigger version... nngh)

How am I supposed to function like a proper adult in the face of that, huh? Huh??

[Or this.]
I... don't remember where that's from, sowwy.

Don't tell me that never happened, I'll stare at it for a bajillion years anyway.

So, yeah. Rendered useless by fandom yet again. AO3 tries to be helpful by being down all the time. It's too bad I turn into a F5ing rage monster when AO3 goes down and thus don't get anything done anyway. Thanks for the attempted intervention, I guess?

Three stories I can recommend if you're so inclined:

Arms And The Man by sam-storyteller @DW
His best friend keeps cockblocking him, his relationship guru is a computer, and he might be gay. The future is very complicated.

The reason you ruminate the shadowy past by Mizzy @AO3
So, Captain America effectively manages to cockblock Tony for a year. It's not Steve's fault. Well, actually, it is. But he was just proving a point - that if a superhero is gay, how can it be wrong? Steve just picked the wrong superhero to make the point with. Now America will think they're dating - and Tony's not going to be the guy to break Captain America's heart. There's only one way out. To save face, Steve and Tony have to become fake boyfriends. Steve thinks the "boyfriends" bit will be the hardest to act... but maybe it's the "fake" part that will be the hardest act of all...

(First Impressions Are) A Work in Progress by porthos @AO3
Tony has a point system for the times he can get Steve to be less than perfect.

Yup.

» It's the last day of a glorious four-day weekend which was mostly spent lazing around, catching up on tv stuffs (Game of Thrones, Awake, Teen Wolf), reading fic (Glomp Fest, miniBANG, and some other things to my To Read list), and eating ice cream sandwiches (all gone now, no more brain freeze, whew).

» The miniBANG we hosted at merlinbb_rpf has started posting! So if you're into Merlin RPF, head over there and check that out. As for the Big Bang, sign-ups are just around the corner (May 7th!) and Gwyn is currently working on the pimp graphics while I prep the FAQ and How To and whatnot. With the show most likely ending this year it's probably going to be the last round. Here's hoping we go out with bang. (I'm so ashamed of that pun.)

» [Brief comment about Supernatural 7.20.]SPN 7.20: Charlie was almost awesome enough to make up for the awful mockery that is Becky. They can bring Charlie back anytime as far as I'm concerned. Heck, give her a crown and make her a recurring. She and Cas would be a dream team.

» Yep, still in love with the spoiler cut.

» omg you guise, Teen Wolf. I watched all 12 episodes of season one in under 24 hours. NO REGRETS. That show is absolutely ridiculous and I love it. It's a bit confusing to my shipping heart because I kind of liked all the characters but somehow didn't immediately have an OTP. I always have an OTP! Five seconds in! Whaaat. I think I'm sort of flirting with Derek/Stiles, though? So uh, if you have any recs for that, or could point me into the direction of your trusty TW reccer, that would be fab. That reminds me, same counts for Being Human, Hal/Tom. I tuned back in now that they basically re-started with a new cast and loved the season. I've been meaning to check out some Hal/Tom fic, but I'm floundering a bit, not knowing where to start. Any recs or links to reccers would be greatly appreciated.

» Bees. I don't mind bees in general, but somehow one mother of a bee made it into my apartment yesterday. And it was pissed. I got so scared I almost killed it, but then I sucked it up and managed to throw it out without harm to either of us. Gah! Gotta remember to check the fly screens for holes.

» As for personal stuff, I'm doing okay. Still dealing with some things but when am I not. Work is alright, about to become a bit quiet when my dad goes on vacation for a couple of weeks. I wish I could go with, could use some of that Serbian quiet right about now, but I don't have anyone I trust to look after the guinea pigs. Oh well. It could be worse, all of it, so I don't want to complain too much.

» Aaand we're done! Aren't you glad. ;)

ARTWORK

Untitled by yumribbun@tumblr
Comments Beautiful sketch of Arthur and Merlin, modern AU style.

Untitled by avali@tumblr
Comments Arthur in the rain, wearing armor. I want to know who commissioned this just so I can thank them profusely for allowing the artist to share this with the rest of us.

Embrace by enednoviel
Comments Pencil drawing. Arthur embracing Merlin. Very nice.

What Colin Does by thefanboyfiles@tumblr
Comments A graphic from the "What X Thinks Y Does" series that made the rounds. Goes, "What friends think I do", "What my mom thinks I do", accompanied by pictures. I highly approve of the last one, "What I really do". ;)

FICTION (All Merlin/Arthur.)

Fundamental Imperfection @ AO3 by starlingthefool (R, 12k)
Summary In which an argument about Dickens leads to a Twitter scandal, broken bones, midnight conversations, and transatlantic longing. (Or, an AU with Arthur and Merlin as moderately famous authors.)

Something Yellow This Time (@AO3) by giselleslash (PG, 3.8k)
Summary Merlin owns a flower shop. Arthur is a frequent customer with a tragic love life.

Every Story is a Love Story (@AO3) by lady_ragnell (NC-17, 24.6k)
Summary Camelot Publishing publishes romance novels, and when Arthur founds a new imprint of gay romance and invites his best friend and pet writer Merlin to write for it, it's a bit too easy to miss the fact that apparently he's living in one.

Can't Buy Me Love (@AO3) by shes_gone (NC-17, 20k)
Summary In which it's 1964, Camelot is an advertising agency with a budget problem, Merlin is a copywriter who loves to twist, and Arthur is a junior partner who loves to shout. More or less.

Being with You @ AO3 by ella_bane (NC-17, 12.5k)
Summary Merlin is gay. Arthur isn't. When they meet, their mutual attraction can't be denied. But then it is. Sexy times and angsty times ensue. And it all happens in less than a day.

Stumble Into Faith (@AO3) by leashy_bebes (R, 4.5k)
Summary Arthur returns from a deadly mission, and Merlin is concerned.

Question: how do you guys define "modern AU"? Do you count any AUs set in modern times, or...? Because I found that for myself I define it as set in modern times and with a certain dynamic, that being: Arthur as a business man, Uther as his boss, Daddy Issues Of Some Sort, and most of the supporting cast star as friends or employees. Anything else I would call "AU". Am I doing it wrong? What's the general consensus here.

I'm in the process of re-organizing my Pinboard bookmarks. Right now most of the links go to Livejournal entries. My next project will be to download/back up all the fic to my ebook reader, though, so I'm hunting for AO3 accounts and changing all the links to AO3. Needless to say that's going to take forever. But it's worth the work, especially now that I have an archival account at Pinboard. It archives AO3 pages perfectly and thanks to the "view entire work" option on the AO3 I no longer have to bookmark multiple parts just so Pinboard can grab everything, hooray! In short: if you have an AO3 account, I love you extra special. *g*

Uh, not that that's why I started this entry. I wanted to prod you about tagging. Since I'm going through all my bookmarks I want to get this right, and I'm worried I'll forget adding important tags, argh. Right now I'm adding tags for:

* events, meaning challenges or fests, eg. event:paperlegends
* fandom
* host, which will make it easier to hunt for AO3 alternatives in the future, eg. host:lj
* keyword, this includes kinks, tropes, and the like, eg. keyword:hurt/comfort
* medium, meaning fic, art, vid
* pairing
* setting, meaning AU, canon, etc.
* word count, which I divided into categories, eg. words(3):2k-4.9k

I format the bookmark titles "author: story title", so I can locate authors and stories via the search function. The description format is "word count. rating. author summary". I'm also adding my own summary in ( ) if the author summary is too nondescript. Oh, and author warnings if there are any, mostly for people browsing by.

Is there anything you tag for that I left out? Any "keywords" that are important to you? My instinct is to not tag for m/m, for example, since that's true for most of the stories I bookmark. Instead I thought I'd tag for het and moresomes, but I'm not sure if that's the right approach, hrm.

Oh, and one more thing: [I'm in love with the new spoiler tag.]Hey there, beautiful. It works in the comments, too! How brilliant is that? I can't even think why I would use the regular lj-cut anymore. The spoiler tag doesn't require leaving the page, that's great even when you cut for length. Bwee! A useful LJ addition at last.

I promised these recs to a bunch of you, sorry to keep you waiting. Apparently "Tomorrow, hopefully. Maybe. I'll try!" is the new "In a month." Argh.

Sherlock

VIDS

Starting off with a couple new vid recs. No sadness this time around!

Hey Na Na @ YouTube
Comments Some of the best bits of the first two season two episodes wrapped in a cute, bubbly song. I keep rewatching this whenever I need a "remember how awesome season two was?" boost.

sherlock song spoof @ YouTube
Comments Sherlock set to various song snippets. So many laughs. My favorite is probably 1:30, which starts with John wondering why everyone thinks they're dating and—no, no I won't spoil that for you, see for yourself. *g*

Lies, Lies by legoline
Comments "Now here's the sun, it's alright! (Lies, lies!)" Beautifully edited Sherlock vid. (Okay, fine. Maybe a tiny bit of sadness.)

FICTION

When I began looking for Sherlock fic I quickly got overwhelmed, not knowing where to start. So I took a closer look at the asexual!Sherlock trope and focused on that for a while, which is why there's a fair bit of asexual!Sherlock in here. Turns out it's one of my favorite things! It just ties in so neatly with my love for first times and only you and misunderstandings and confusion followed by happy endings, mmm.

These are all Sherlock/John. I tried to supply alternative links (LJ and AO3) where available. 18 recs this time around (gotta work off that backlog, oof). The summary is the summary given by the author. I haven't commented on all of them, that would've taken too long seeing as I really wanted them to go up today lest it takes me another four weeks, tralala. /o\

Planet Sherlock (@AO3) by pir8fancier (NC-17, 6k)
Summary John and Sherlock devise a rating system for their sexual encounters.
Comments John compares sex to murder to make Sherlock understand how much he enjoys sex. Excellent idea (if you ask me, *g*).

The Second Law of Thermodynamics (@AO3) by entangled_now (NC-17, 16k)
Summary In which there's no heating and there's a dead owl in Sherlock's bed.
Comments A series of four stories. The link goes to the serious tag on LJ and the series page on AO3. The first asexual!Sherlock fic I read.

The World on His Wrist & Elsewhere Come Morning (@AO3) by bendingsignpost (AU, PG-13 & NC-17, 67k)
Summary First, he is shot in Afghanistan. Second, he wakes to a phone call in Chelmsford, Essex. Third is pain, fourth is normalcy, fifth is agony and sixth is confusion. By the eighth, he's lost track.
Comments You know how sometimes you read something that is so well done you don't even know what to do with yourself? John switches between different realities, something he has no control over. In one he's still serving in Afghanistan, another is the one we know, in the third Sherlock didn't survive A Study in Pink, and in the fourth John saves Sherlock's life but keeps his distance. I have no idea how the author kept the realities straight, but they did and it's amazing and fascinating and I can't recommend this story highly enough.

Let You Kiss Me (So Sweet and So Soft) (@AO3) by out_there (PG, 8.7k)
Summary The first time Sherlock kisses him, John keeps his eyes open, and so does Sherlock, and mostly, he wonders what Sherlock could possibly be up to. There'll be some logic to this. Some ridiculous experiment about body warmth or respiratory rates or testing a new way of picking pockets. Sherlock does the unimaginable for bizarre reasons, but behind it, there's always logic and curiosity. Sometimes, it just takes him a while to explain it to John.
Comments This gave me so many happy, fluffy feelings. Oh, John. Oh, Sherlock. ♥

Behavioural Modification (@AO3) by bendingsignpost (NC-17, 23k)
Summary Whatever it took, he was going to make this work.
Comments Asexual!Sherlock. In Sherlock's mind it's perfectly reasonable to provide John with sex in exchange for tea (since, you know, he doesn't really want sex in return). John doesn't quite see it that way. Sherlock's POV, misunderstandings, a fair bit of angst. Delicious!

Moar!Collapse )

Done, whew. Let me know if there are any broken links lurking about in there.
